Westbourne's Boarding House opened its doors for the first time on the 3rd September 2011. Located one minute's walk from the school, the house is in a safe, residential area within two minutes of Penarth town centre. Situated near local shops, facilities and transport links, the Boarding House is ideally placed for travel to Cardiff city centre and beyond.

Renovations began in the middle of June (lasting 4-6 weeks) to ensure that this modern building became a comfortable and welcoming Boarding House for pupils and students. The Boarding House accommodates Westbourne pupils and students from all over the world between the ages of 13 and 18.

We have two well-loved and supportive house parents called Ruth and Iain, who look after and supervise our boarders. Iain and Ruth are experienced house parents having come to us after spending a number of years running a boarding house for the Royal Ballet school, where they looked after both British and International students. Ruth and Iain ensure that the family-based ethos of Westbourne School extends throughout all aspects of the students’ lives.

Single rooms are available for Years 12 and 13 and we have and shared rooms (or single rooms, which subject to availability) for pupils in the lower years. There is time both in the evenings and at weekends for students to complete the homework they receive. Iain and Ruth work closely with teachers at school to ensure that the students are keeping up with their lessons and completing their homework as required.

Every evening there is a home-cooked meal served to boarders, with care taken to cater for varying dietary requirements. Here is a sample of the Boarding House menu:

Upon arrival, students also have the opportunity of joining local clubs where they can mix with local British students at the same time as enjoying their sport activity.
