The teaching of History begins in the Primary School and continues throughout the school to Year 11. Pupils begin to study Ancient Civilisations in Year 3, and Invaders and Settlers in Year 4. Pupils in Year 5-8 study British History from 1066-1914. Pupils in Year 9 deal with World History of the Twentieth Century. The GCSE covers four topics i.e. the History of Medicine, Germany 1919-1945, Cardiff Castle and the Irish question. The former are examination topics and the latter are coursework assignments.

The study of History is focused upon the acquisition and development of the pupils' skills with regard to interpretation, analysis and evaluation - they learn about peoples attitudes to societies of the past. In order to provide them with an insight into the past, a variety of resources is used. Pupils are encouraged to reflect upon the past and compare it with the present. This enables them to become aware of their own development.

The teaching of history is firmly related to the Standing Orders of the Common Entrance Board and the National Curriculum.
