The Junior School consists of a Nursery Department and classes from Reception to Year 4. The Nursery Department, established in 1990, has a qualified teacher, assisted by a nursery nurse and an assistant, to oversee the children's development.

The teacher works with small groups, where the foundations of phonic work for reading, and number work, are carried out in a quiet and relaxed context. Another room is used for sand/water play and for art sessions, while a third serves as a constructive play and story telling area; there is an adjacent outside playground where play can proceed under constant supervision. Nursery children join the Reception Class for singing.

The Document, 'Desirable Outcomes for Children's Learning before Compulsory School Age' which has recently been updated by the Qualifications, Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales, forms the basis for the work of the Nursery, although we believe that the emphasis placed on teaching foundations for reading and number gives added value and is a sound preparation for life in the Reception Class.
