Westbourne School has developed a reputation for being a caring community in which young people can thrive. While PHSE is time-tabled discretely, all aspects advised by the National Curriculum are covered, from Year 1 through to Year 11.
The issues of PHSE are covered in all subjects, to one degree or another, and this whole-curriculum emphasis is supplemented by regular school visits from a variety of professionals. Visits to other institutions provide yet more breadth to the scope of provision for this vital aspect of pupil development.
Pupils are encouraged to become more personally and socially effective, by providing them with learning experiences in which they can develop skills; explore attitudes, values and personal qualities; and acquire, evaluate and apply knowledge and understanding, which is appropriate to a variety of life experiences. In the way, it is hoped; both self-esteem and personal responsibility will be developed, empowering pupils to become more active and effective citizens.
