School life
IB Diploma students study on average for 23 hours a week in the classroom, leaving room for homework and extra curricular activities outside of the classroom. GCSE students study for an average of 25 hours per week with the exact number depending on subject choices. Study periods occur when a class is not timetabled. These are used by pupils to start homework pieces or conduct further study in a topic learnt in the classroom that day. GCSE Students must use the time for study whereas IB Diploma students can choose to relax, have a cup of tea or read the newspaper providing they are keeping up with their work.

Sixth Form Students

GCSE students at private study
With Westbourne just ten minutes ride away from Cardiff City Centre, sixth form students divide their out of school time between private study, socialising with school or local friends, relatives, organised excursions and paid work. Some of our international students following the IB Diploma Course are learning to drive, playing a musical instrument such as the piano or going to the gym, as the local fitness centre is just a short walk from the school. Whatever your preference or an interest you wish to pursue, Westbourne is situated in a perfect location to meet those needs.
In addition, as a crucial part of the IB Diploma, sixth form students have to take part in the Community, Action, and Service (CAS) projects after school which involves charity work, helping out in the community and creative activities.
Chicken knitting Please find attached the uniform list for GCSE students. This is worn from Year 1-11 and includes skirt/trousers, shirt, tie, the school blazer with emblem and appropriate smart black footwear. At Westbourne, we have a relationship with a local school uniform shop who can supply this attire. IB Diploma students do not need to wear a
uniform but must adhere to the school’s dress code.
