Science is taught from the earliest years as an integrated subject but separately as Biology, Chemistry and Physics in Years 9-11. In Years 7-8 pupils follow the Common Entrance Science syllabus, which is consistent with Key Stage Three of the National Curriculum; the course therefore provides an excellent foundation for GCSE Sciences. Years 5-11 have access to two Science laboratories.

Practical work is an integral part of the course and pupils in Years 5-6 are able to use equipment, which might not normally be available to junior school pupils.

Penarth is conveniently located near the coast and the Brecon Beacons, both of which are used for field trips to cover ecology aspects of the Science courses. Techniquest, a hands-on Science and Technology Centre in Cardiff Bay, runs relevant workshops throughout the year and is visited by the pupils. Visits to industrial sites are also part of the chemistry course.

At GCSE all three sciences have proved to be popular with both girls and boys and results have been outstanding for many years. Teaching is carried out by subject specialists, all of whom have many years of experience. The use of Information Technology in Science is encouraged. There is access to computers during lesson time and at other times, enabling high quality and well presented coursework to be produced.

A high proportion of pupils go on to study the sciences at A' Level when they leave Westbourne.
