A distinctly British school with an exciting global outlook
Ranked one of the leading independent schools in the UK, Westbourne offers an unrivalled education for children aged 2-18.
With a global outlook and reputation for excellence on a worldwide scale, as we continue to expand our schools across the world, our aim is to nurture well-rounded, internationally-minded young people who possess the skills and acumen to be the leaders of the future.
A unique academic community
Westbourne offers a unique mix of global discovery alongside an undiminished focus on the individual. Deliberately smaller than neighbouring schools, each student is known by name by every teacher, and pupils report that Westbourne feels like a family. We are proud of our tightly knit, welcoming, friendly community, which supports every student to reach their full academic and personal potential.
With class sizes capped, Westbourne students benefit from much smaller classes than at other schools. We tailor the learning journey to the individual, avoiding generic ‘streaming’ so that each child is supported and challenged according to their personal strengths and interests. Our teachers engage with the children one-to-one, guiding them through the curriculum in a personalised way so that it is always interesting and inspiring.
A more vibrant curriculum
Our mission is to foster a love of learning and discovery in all pupils, from nursery through to Sixth Form. Pupils study a broad range of subjects from Prep School onwards, including early exposure to foreign languages, the arts, mathematics and science in the younger years, and opportunities to specialise as they move up into Senior School. We also offer opportunities for outdoor learning, where students are inspired to excel through an exploration and closer understanding of the natural world, including our ever-popular Forest & Beach (FaB) School for all Prep pupils.
At Sixth Form, our pupils are mentored and supported on a one-to-one basis to ensure that they not only make the right subject choices for them, but that they also benefit from a strong understanding of the competencies and preparation required to secure their first-choice university place. 90 per cent of Westbourne graduates progress to top Russell Group universities.
Future-proofing through STEM
Westbourne is proud to deliver a dynamic STEM curriculum for all pupils to support them to develop advanced real-world skills in knowledge application, teamworking, problem-solving and creativity, as well as to give them a head-start when applying to university. We place a core focus on STEM for all pupils, from Reception to IB, while also providing further learning opportunities via an exciting co-curricular clubs programme, including everything from Science Club to Lego Club, Board Games Club and Maths Club, to name only a few.
We also run a STEM trip every Spring term for our Year 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 students. This year the pupils enjoyed a trip to Silverstone Interactive Museum to learn about the engineering science behind the motorsport industry. This state-of-the-art museum aims to inspire the next generation of engineers through STEM workshops and interactive activities.
With an illustrious 125-year history of academic excellence, Westbourne is increasingly recognised as an innovator in education, leading the way with a cutting-edge approach.
In 2021, we were added to the prestigious EdTech50 list, which acknowledges the organisations that are shaping UK education through technological innovation. We were one of the first schools in Wales to use artificial intelligence to enhance learning, delivered through an innovative tech partnership and the latest thinking in neuroscience.
To complement our advances in online and classroom learning, we also recently launched a state-of-the-art online careers and destinations platform for all Senior School students, empowering them to apply for the best university and professional development opportunities globally.
Prioritising student wellbeing
To complement academic studies, all students participate in a wide and varied schedule of co-curricular clubs running daily, as well as regular trips and excursions to explore the beautiful coastline and countryside surrounding the school.
Clubs are carefully selected to extend the skills and competencies learned in class and to encourage confidence and independence, as well as a sense of achievement. Students can choose from a broad range of activities including drama, singing, cookery, horseriding, white water rafting, skateboarding, newspaper club, origami, sailing and many more. We run regular weekend yoga sessions for our boarders at both beginner and advanced levels.
