Staffing Team

Exceptional teachers

Westbourne’s teachers are highly qualified subject specialists, united by their enthusiasm for the transformative power of education. With an average tenure of 11+ years and 50% holding a PhD or Masters Degree, our teachers take great pride in preparing students for the challenges of the world beyond the classroom.

Westbourne was judged excellent – the top award – in every inspection category during the most recent national inspection. However, we have no intention of resting on our laurels and have a commitment to continual development of our teaching practice. Work closely with our Westbourne College Sydney teachers and Director of R&D, Westbourne continually evaluates and improves practices, demonstrating a commitment to excellence that runs school wide.

Uniquely, not only do our smaller classes ensure that all students receive individual, personalised attention, but our teachers’ doors are always open between and outside class-time for one-to-one and private follow up and discussion on specific issues that students may be finding challenging.

We very much look forward to introducing you to our full academic and pastoral team when you come to visit us; in the meantime, key staff members you are likely to meet throughout the admissions process are profiled below.

With a wealth of leadership experience in the public sector, Dr Griffiths brought his passion for science and the student experience to Westbourne in 2015, initially as Head of Prep. Nurturing a passion for academia from an early age, favouring books over sports, Dr Griffiths’ infectious love for learning is clearly evident from his studies at Imperial, his PhD in Chemistry, and ongoing enthusiasm for retaining a classroom presence alongside his leadership of the school. Describing Westbourne as a supportive community that successfully encourages the students to achieve beyond their potential, Dr Griffiths has overseen Westbourne’s continued League Tables success since his appointment. Beyond the classroom, Dr Griffiths is a hearty supporter of Welsh rugby, cricket and Liverpool FC, and speaks fluent French and Welsh. Scarlett, Dr Griffiths’ daughter, is also a pupil at Westbourne: “I want for the school what I want for my daughter – I want her to be happy but I also want her to embrace her dreams and passions.”
