Appeal for donations

Launching our Christmas appeals

As the nights draw in and we start thinking about Christmas, it is also a time to reflect on how lucky we are. Westbourne is proud to be leading two charitable initiatives over the Christmas period, including collecting donations for a local food bank, as well as ‘The Big Wrap’, a now annual tradition at the school. As ever, thank you to the entire Westbourne School community in anticipation of your generous support.

The Big Wrap 2019

We are delighted that Westbourne Senior School is supporting The Big Wrap for the third year in a row. Run by volunteers and entirely reliant on donations from local organisations and members of the public, The Big Wrap is a charity that gifts presents to local children who are at risk of receiving nothing or very little for Christmas. In 2018, the charity supported 358 children and young people in the Vale over the Christmas period.

This year’s appeal will focus on young people aged 14 to 19. Referrals for this age group have increased every year and it can be very difficult to secure donations for them; so far, The Big Wrap has had over 100 teenagers referred from the Vale of Glamorgan. We can provide bank details for any Westbourne families or teachers who would like to make a financial donation and other donation gift ideas include:

Bath and shower sets
Make-up
Nail varnish
Hair accessories
Jewellery (not pierced earrings)
Hats, scarves, gloves, socks
Colouring books (for older ages)
Scented candles
Chocolates and Christmas treats
Fun small puzzles and games
Gift tokens

Presents can be brought into the Senior School any time up to 10th December. Westbourne pupil representatives will then deliver the presents to the collection point in Barry.

Please bring the presents in unwrapped. This is to ensure the right demographic receives the present! Gift wrap and Christmas bags are also always needed and can be donated at the same time.

The Trussell Trust

IB1 is heading a charitable initiative to collect donations for a food bank in the Vale of Glamorgan. The students are asking fellow students, parents, teachers and friends of the school to consider making a donation to help those less fortunate than ourselves at Christmas. The following donations are being accepted, and can be left in designated Donation Boxes located in Reception in both the Senior and Prep schools:

Mince pies
Custard
Apple Pies
Tinned Ham
Boxes of biscuits
Squash and fizzy drinks
Tinned salmon
Chocolate treats (selection boxes)
Pringles
Christmas puddings
Steamed sponges
Yule logs

On 15th December, the students will be delivering these boxes to The Trussell Trust in Barry, where the food will be enjoyed by those in need.
