A taste of top university study

Our IB1 Computer Science students visited the Computer Science department at Cardiff University this week, located in a state-of-the-art, brand new facility in the centre of the city.

The students were given a tour of the new site, including the cybersecurity and robotics laboratories and maker space. They were excited to attend university-style lectures on the degree programmes available at Cardiff, as well as learn more about the entry process and the phenomenal range of options available to Computer Science graduates.

Experiencing the university’s cutting-edge technology first-hand, the group participated in a programming class, experiencing dictionary data structures for the first time.

Russell Group links

Cardiff University is recognised in independent government assessments as one of Britain’s leading teaching and research universities and is a member of the Russell Group of the UK’s most research intensive universities. The 2014 Research Excellence Framework ranked the University 5th in the UK for research excellence.

This visit marks the first of many collaborations we have planned with the university’s Computer Science department over the coming year. Year 8 will be next, with a visit and a cybersecurity workshop in the summer term.
