Macbeth at the Millennium Centre

Bringing Shakespeare to life

With GCSE exams looming, Year 11 English Literature students had the recent opportunity to take advantage of some of the fantastic facilities on our doorstep here in Penarth with a trip to see the National Theatre’s production of Macbeth at the Cardiff Millennium centre.

Accompanied by their English teacher, Mrs. Page, students were very excited to be sitting in the 4th row in front of an atmospheric set in a marvellously lit auditorium.

The production brought the play to life rather thrillingly, with imaginative use of a large central ramp which could be turned to become several settings.

The witches shimmied up tall poles without footholds, to lurk over the action while concealed in blackened foliage to suggest their evil intentions and there were ghosts galore, sword fights, rowdy carousing, and cleverly staged, and suitably brutal executions.
