University of Cambridge training

Congratulations to Huyen, IB1, who entered the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 2, and performed so well that she has been invited to the UK Trinity Training Camp at Trinity College, University of Cambridge, this spring.

The camp will further prepare Huyen for the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad on 13th – 19th April 2023 in Portorož, Slovenia. This prestigious mathematics competition consists of two papers taken on two consecutive days. Participation is by invitation only, with each invited country able to send a team of up to four female contestants, a leader, and a deputy leader.

We are so proud of Huyen for this extraordinary achievement! Everyone at Westbourne wishes her the very best of luck over the coming months as she continues to prove her credentials as an exceptional mathematician.

Mathematics Challenge success

Years 9 to 11 took part in the Intermediate Mathematics Challenge earlier this month, and the results are back! Westbourne students achieved an exceptional set of results, with eight Gold, seven Silver, and eight Bronze awards.

The Intermediate Mathematical Challenge is a 60-minute, multiple-choice challenge. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.

The excellent scores of five of the students qualified them for entry into future rounds, including Illia (PreIB), Elisa, Aiyan and Karena Chan (Year 10), who will now join the very highest performers at the “Pink Kangaroo” on 16th March.

Alvin, who scored the highest of Westbourne students, has also been entered into the Hamilton Mathematical Olympiad. Well done, all!
