Pupils from Westbourne’s Prep and Senior School took part in a Beach Clean and educational workshop run by Keep Wales Tidy and the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
The charity is committed to working with local communities across Wales to protect the environment for future generations to enjoy.
Keep Wales Tidy’s vision is to ensure Wales is kept clean and tidy which can make a real difference to the health and well-being of local communities and to the economy, while protecting and preserving nature.
Our students began the day by working together to clean the beach in Penarth. With specialist equipment and heaps of teamwork, the children were able to collect a range of litter from the beach, including plastic bottles and food wrappers.
This will not only create a safer, healthier environment for people using the beach but will also ensure natural habitats and wildlife can continue to thrive.
The Council and the charity also delivered an educational workshop to the children discussing the amount of litter across Wales and the significant impact it can have on the planet.
Our students were able to look at why littering has increased in recent years and examine types of litter most commonly found on the Welsh coast.
As a small independent school, we foster a culture of kindness, compassion and consideration. From Nursery to Sixth Form, our pupils are encouraged to be responsible and respectful to not only each other but their environment. The workshop provided a a fun and practical approach to understanding and learning about the world which our students will soon be responsible for.
