ISA Senior School of the Year Finalist
A global perspective

Westbourne Senior School offers a unique mix of traditional British boarding school with a truly global outlook, welcoming pupils from across 25 different nationalities. Our global approach and links between the UK and Sydney fosters a programme of international learning and exchange, with outstanding academic results.

Academically, Westbourne’s small size and intensive support ensures a long term 90% Russell Group entry rate, with many students achieving 5/5 top UCAS offers. Senior students achieved unprecedented success in debating and science Olympiads, ranking at the top of the leaderboards in a number of national online competitions, including a team third in the prestigious University of Cambridge Chemistry Race.

Enhancing learning through technology

The past few years have seen us transform our use of technology to empower students to gain new skills that give them the edge over their peers. In 2021, we were added to the high-profile EdTech50 list for innovation in technology, and this year were shortlisted for ‘Best Use of Technology’ in the TES Schools Awards, as well as for the Independent School of the Year Innovation Award.

With Prep pupils learning the principles of coding from as early as Year 3, Senior School students quickly develop advanced computing skills, with an impressive grasp of high-level programming and robotics.

Westbourne was also one of the first schools in Wales to use artificial intelligence to enhance learning. Our students use an online learning platform backed by AI and the latest thinking in neuroscience to extend their classroom study. It generates mini-lessons as well as extensive further reading, all with full teacher support.

Leading UK STEM School
New data from the UK Government shows that there is an increasing demand for STEM graduates in the workplace, with STEM jobs expected to grow at double the rate of other occupations.

To “future-proof” our students to succeed beyond school, Westbourne offers a pioneering STEM curriculum, providing hands-on, interactive learning for pupils of all ages. Students use experimentation, critical thinking, creativity and imagination to build resilience and practical skills.

Empowering students through global mindedness

Personalised attention is at the heart of the Westbourne experience. Working one-to-one with expert staff, students are guided to reach their full academic and personal potential, whilst gaining access to a myriad of learning opportunities designed to inspire and grow their global awareness.

Close links with our IB sister school, Westbourne College Sydney, enable our Sixth Form students to participate in a lively hub of knowledge exchange and cultural discovery, whilst immersing themselves in the challenging IB Diploma curriculum designed to create the leaders of the future.

Supported by a leading online careers and destinations platform they have the tools to research and apply for the best university and professional development opportunities globally, in a range of competitive industries.
