Sydney Exchange Programme: Business & Entrepreneurship

Posted: 9th June 2022

The entrepreneurs of tomorrow

On Monday, our IB students joined students from our leading sister school, Westbourne College Sydney, for an intensive MBA-style ‘live case’ workshop led by Adrian Johnson, Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at INSEAD and technology and media entrepreneur.

Westbourne is proud to have strong links with INSEAD, ranked #1 MBA school globally, through our Chairman Mr Mark Peters. We are the only UK school to provide students with exclusive access and application support to Summer@ INSEAD, an MBA style two-week Summer School that takes place at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, on the outskirts of Paris.

Working in groups, the students brainstormed new business ideas, thinking about different business models and implementation, including operations, financial modelling, customer behaviour and recruiting a workforce, before pitching them to the room. The students’ businesses were ultimately critiqued by world-renowned entrepreneur, Professor Johnson, who awarded prizes for the most viable, impressive ideas.

The dynamic session encouraged the students to think outside of the box and to be brave with their business ideas, in addition to developing their teamworking and presentation skills, alongside expert coaching and mentoring.

The unforgettable day saw Westbourne students from different sides of the world join together to come up with the ideas that will transform tomorrow, in a setting of global collaboration, debate and knowledge exchange that has come to define the Westbourne School experience.

Each year, a group of Westbourne IB1 students attend the INSEAD headquarters to take part in a lifechanging business and networking programme. The prestigious Summer@ INSEAD programme presents a unique opportunity for our IB1 students to widen and enhance their academic pursuits, as well as to meet other students from across the world who share similar aspirations and abilities. The values and culture of the Summer@ INSEAD programme complement Westbourne’s ambition to develop well-rounded, articulate, globally aware young people who are confident to tackle the ever-evolving demands of the working world.

Featuring a world-class academic curriculum, company visits, talks with business leaders and entrepreneurs, as well as numerous cultural, team building and social activities, Summer@ INSEAD provides students with a unique and transformative experience. More than just an incremental gain in factual business knowledge, the programme is designed to give participants the opportunity to develop their creativity and critical thinking skills while enhancing their confidence and ability to work across cultures.
