The end of an era…the week at Westbourne

Posted: 29th May 2019

Congratulations to the Class of 2019!

As we welcome the half term break and our GCSE class enjoy a short pause in their exams, IB2 prepare for a long summer as their exams come to close. On Friday, the Class of 2019 rejoiced as their hard work was over and they could now let their hair down. Excitement filled the air as our graduating class, together with their IB1 classmates, got ready for their big night, the Leavers’ Dinner.

Accompanied by Mrs Barber, Ms Phillips, Dr Griffiths and many other teachers who came along to celebrate besides them, they headed off for a 3-course dinner, followed by partying at Jury’s Inn in Cardiff City Centre.

Though it was an emotional farewell, exciting and nervous times lie ahead for our students as they await their IB results, which will be published in July. Well done to all for surviving the exam period, we look forward to celebrating your graduation with you in November!

The beautiful flower centrepieces at the Leavers’ Dinner were designed by Westbourne’s very own Gardening Club, run on Thursdays by Mrs Dubois-Jones.

21 beautiful flower arrangements were lovingly handcrafted by the group and proudly displayed on the tables at the Jury’s Inn.

Big adventure at mini golf!

In addition, students from Year 6 and 8 enjoyed a birthday party at Treetop Adventure Golf in Cardiff City Centre, for Douglas’ birthday. The children had a lot of fun making their way around the indoor, jungle themed 18-hole mini golf course.

Douglas and Ronald, who live in Hong Kong, joined our Senior School for a 3 week short study experience, together with their younger sister Ronika. We very much enjoyed having them with us, it was great to make new friends and the children and teachers were sad to say goodbye!

Sharon, their mum, said this about their experience:

It is such a rewarding and wonderful experience in Westbourne for all of us. I can’t believe we are coming to the end of this three weeks adventure so soon! The children have gained amazing experiences interacting with their new friends and teachers in the UK. They have greatly benefited from the experience.

I would like to take this chance to show our appreciation to the school and all the staff for making things smooth and memorable for us.
