A global academic competition

Eighteen students from our Senior School, from Years 6 to 10, will take part in the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) in Cardiff next week – an exciting international academic competition with more than 15,000 students participating from around the globe.

The first rounds take place in over 70 countries, culminating in the Tournament of Champions at Yale University, partner institution for the event.

Application of knowledge
The competition focuses specifically on application of knowledge and how well students’ use what they know to come up with the correct answer. They will explore questions that connect many subjects, from technology to literature, as well as engaging in debate, writing and knowledge challenges.

Westbourne students will take part in four team events, including solving analytical questions and multimedia challenges; collaborative writing; multiple choice questions with a twist; and team debate on motions from policy to poetry, whether parents should have access to surveillance cameras at schools or whether women make better superheroes, with only 15 minutes to research an argument.

We wish them all the very best of luck as they make final preparations for next week!
