The staff and pupils of Westbourne School have been delighted this week to welcome Mr Xin Leiguang and a party from the Shenyang Daily Newspaper. Shenyang, formerly known as Manchu, is the provincial capital and largest city of Liaoning Province in Northern China, with a population of over 8 million. Mr Xin is the director of the Shenyang Daily which has a readership of over a million each week. The newspaper has particular interest in education and has been developing strong links with Westbourne School, which has been ranked as the best small IB school in the UK for the last two years.
The Shenyang Daily organises a national English competition each year, which attracts over half a million entries from all over China. The winner of last year’s competition, Scarlett Ma, pictured with Mr Xin and Mr Underhill, is now studying the IB Diploma at Westbourne School. Another Westbourne student from Shenyang, David Tong was delighted to discover that Mr Xin had attended the same primary school back in China
