Medicine

A route to an outstanding career

A number of Westbourne students have seen success in securing university places in Medicine, a highly competitive degree in the UK, over recent years. Our students are supported at all stages of their Medical School applications, including registering and preparing for their BMAT.

Excelling in the BMAT

The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is used by universities around the world to help select applicants for medical, dental, biomedical and veterinary degree programmes.

The BMAT tests students’ ability to apply scientific and mathematical knowledge, problem solving, critical thinking and written communication skills, including quality of content and quality of English. It allows applicants to showcase their knowledge and understanding of the subject, and is an opportunity to demonstrate aptitude and suitability for university study.

There are eight UK universities that require the BMAT, including Cambridge University, Imperial College London, University College London, and the University of Oxford Medical School. It is also required by a number of universities globally.

Cambridge University states that students who achieve higher BMAT results are more likely to be invited to Interview. Medicine at Cambridge is very competitive and having a high BMAT score is important when competing with fellow students who demonstrate excellent GCSEs, and IB Diploma or A Level predicted grades.
