Senior School

Academic excellence at every stage

Westbourne has a long history of academic excellence and our results at IBDP and GCSE speak for themselves. Nationally recognised as an innovator in education, our experienced academic team work with every student to build the life skills, knowledge and confidence to thrive both at university and in the ever changing workplace beyond.

Delivered in a small class, caring environment, students use experimentation, critical thinking, creativity and imagination to build resilience and practical skills, alongside a strong foundation of scientific knowledge which they can apply to real-world situations.

Alongside a broad subject and co-curricular offering Senior pupils benefit from regular immersive STEM sessions, exploring the latest 3D printing techniques and programming models. This impressive grounding provides students with a head-start in a range of competitive careers, ensuring every pupil graduates Westbourne fully Future Ready.

Nurturing global mindedness

Our thriving day and boarding community spans a student body from over 25 different nationalities. Whilst a proudly British boarding school, we offer a supportive, nurturing community with a truly global outlook, with our home students being joined by the most ambitious students from all over the world.

Working one-to-one with expert staff, students are guided to reach their full academic and personal potential, whilst gaining access to a myriad of learning opportunities designed to inspire and grow their global awareness.

Close links with our IB sister school, Westbourne College Sydney, allow our Senior students to participate in a lively hub of knowledge exchange and cultural discovery, whilst first-class academic and careers mentoring furnishes them with all the skills they will need to excel both at university and in their chosen future profession.

IB School of the Year

Recognised both within the UK and internationally as the ‘gold standard’ in education, our IB Sixth Form is one of the Top 50 IB Diploma schools world-wide, with the attributes of the IB Learner Profile being encouraged throughout the school, building leadership skills, empathy and global mindedness within our students.

An award-winning approach

The Senior School is a lively student-centred environment focused on innovation and discovery, characterised by small classes and tutorial-style teaching. We place an emphasis on academic excellence and on inspiring a love of learning. A hallmark of our approach is teaching students how to learn, in order to equip them with the skills to succeed far beyond secondary school.

Our focus on academic excellence sees 86% of Westbourne Senior School students achieve the highest grades, A*/A (9-7), at GCSE.

The school has been recognised nationally not only for results, but also for approach. Awarded IB School of the Year by the Sunday Times in 2019, the school has since been added to the high-profile EdTech50 list, which acknowledges those organisations that are shaping UK education through technological innovation and, in 2022, was shortlisted for Best Use of Technology in the TES Schools Awards (Times Educational Supplement).

‘We are forever grateful and are still astonished at the level of care you continually extend to not only pupils but parents. I do not think the children realise just how lucky and honoured they are to have such a wonderful array of teachers who are not only the best at what they do but who also care for the emotional and mental wellbeing of each and every pupil. It is quite unique and you really have a gem of a school. Mrs Fox, Westbourne Parent
