How do I apply?

Please email the last two years school reports to our admissions team.

Students interested in our academic programmes will then be invited to sit entrance exams from the convenience of home, via Zoom.

Entrance exams include: English / Maths / Non-Verbal Reasoning

Applicants are invited for a Zoom Interview with our staff.

Where does my child sit the entrance exams?

Entrance tests are taken in your own country, with invigilation via Zoom.

Candidates to the Senior School and Sixth Form are required to sit three exams:

English (60 minutes)

Maths (60 minutes)

Aptitude Testing (45 minutes)

Candidates are then invited to interview, via Zoom with either our Principal or our IB Coordinator (30 minutes).

We aim to turn around admission decisions within 48 hours post interview.

Are scholarships available?

We welcome the brightest young minds at Westbourne and offer a range of academic scholarships to the highest performing academic students.

Academic scholarships range from 5% – 35% remission in fees and are awarded based on performance in entrance exams, aptitude testing and high performance in an additional scholarship paper.

How good does my child's English need to be?

You do not require an IELTS score to apply for Westbourne. Your English is tested as part of the application process and an offer made for a place at Westbourne will take into account your English proficiency.

Upon joining, ESL support for all pupils where English is an additional language is available, subject to individual need.

Our specialist teachers work with pupils to support their learning to ensure they can fully access the curriculum.

Westbourne was commended in its most recent National Inspection Report for its excellence in supporting and integrating ESL students and has been shortlisted in national awards for the international student experience.

For direct entry into Year 12 for the International Baccalaureate Diploma a high level of English fluency is required, both written and spoken. Students who do not possess the necessary English skills for Year 12 entry are recommended the Pre-IB Programme to prepare them fully to access the IB Diploma curriculum.

Do I need to apply through an agency?

No, this is not necessary.

We work with a range of trusted agencies throughout the world, from whom we welcome applications, we are equally happy to accept applications directly.

If you have been introduced to us via one of our trusted partners, you will be directed back to them for the entrance exams.

Does my child need a visa to study in the UK?

Westbourne is a Child Student Visa sponsor, as such all students studying at Westbourne are required to provide documentation on their nationality.

All students applying from the EU for courses in the UK longer than 6 months also now need to apply for a Child Student Visa.

As a Child Student Visa sponsor, our team will guide you through the visa process once the offer of a place at Westbourne has been accepted at Westbourne.

Please note, that you can not apply for a UK Visa until 6 months before joining Westbourne, upon acceptance and meeting all UK visa requirements you will be issued with a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS).

Does my child require a Guardian?

Yes. It is a legal requirement that all students who have parents residing overseas have a named guardian living in the UK.

Westbourne fees already include our guardianship service, therefore there is no requirement for a third party to be retained. Parents may of course opt for an additional external guardian in addition to the service.

 

Does my child need IELTS?

No.

As part of the application process, English, as a second language is tested. There is no registration charge to take Westbourne entrance exams.

Westbourne excels at working with pupils to improve their English. A recommendation may be made for some pupils to attend our intensive 3 week summer school, prior to September entry to improve academic English.

Do you offer a Summer School?

We offer a three week, ESL Summer School every August which prepares students in both spoken and academic English.

We also can offer a short stay immersion programme for international students within the Summer Term, subject to availability. Please contact our Admissions Team for further information.

 

What are the accommodation options?

We have two options, our Boarding House and Home Stay, depending on student preference. It is typical that students under 16 reside in the Boarding House.

Our students in IB2/Year 13 have the additional option of accommodation in our IB2 only HomeStay, No.5. Conveniently located next to the school, the No.5 is focused on preparing students for university life.

For day students under 12 years of age, we are able to support accompanying parent visa applications from international families.

 

What are the fees?

Annual boarding fees for the academic year 2022/2023 are £40, 620 for accommodation in our Boarding House or £38, 950 for accommodation in a private Home Stay.

Fees include: Tuition, accommodation, all meals, guardianship, visa sponsorship, airport transfers on set transfer days at the beginning and end of each academic year.

Fees can paid annually, in advance, or termly.

When paying termly, the payment schedule is as follows: 15th May, 15th September and 15th January, for Autumn, Spring and Summer terms respectively.
