The best preparation for secondary school

Year 5 is a very exciting year at Westbourne Prep as, a year earlier than many primary settings, our Year 5’s find themselves at the top of the Prep School.

Leadership positions are awarded to Head Boy, Head Girl and House Captains giving children the opportunity to grow in confidence and independence as they take on more roles and responsibilities.

Discovery & Exploration

Year 5 marks the end of a wonderful year in which we see the children flourish, become more independent and mature, as well as the start of an important new chapter ahead.

Our students are introduced to life at Westbourne Senior from the beginning of Year 5, as their school calendar includes a full day each week at the Senior School as well as frequent use of the secondary labs. This practice not only gives children access to specialist teaching staff, exposure to new subjects, and the opportunity to use the Senior School facilities including our science facilities and sports grounds, it prepares them for the next step in their educational journey.

In Year 6 students move to our Hickman Road setting and follow our Middle Years curriculum under the guidance of both an academic and pastoral Middle Years lead.

The Middle Years curriculum is a forward thinking approach, uniquely designed to prepare Years 6 – 9 for the challenges of GCSE, Sixth Form and the workplace beyond. Richly themed around the concepts underlying the modern world, its history and challenges ahead, the curriculum ensures students have both the STEM skills and understanding to thrive in the modern world, alongside a depth of pastoral support and care that is second to none.
